What are some ways to make the Daily 5 more rigorous in my classroom? I am planning on starting cause and effect next week and was wondering how I could make the lessons more challenging for my students.

I think it depends on the book choices you make for your students. Make sure they all have good fit books that lend themselves to your focus of cause and effect.
