I will be teaching a 3rd and 4th grade split this year for a total of 27 students. We use Making Meaning for our reading program and Being a Writer for our writing. We are to follow these programs with fidelity and teach all the lessons. Any ideas on how to teach 2 separate curriculums with fidelity and still use the CAFE menu and Daily 5?

Assuming that your reading program introduces strategies for your students, you can match those up with CAFE strategies and add them to the CAFE board as you introduce them through your lessons. Keep your lessons at the “mini” length as the Sisters and brain research suggest. Probably your writing program will be separate from your reading time, as in a writer’s workshop format. However, you can encourage your students to use what they’ve learned in your lessons while doing work on writing.
